The Cocaine Fiends
1935The jitters
A remake of the 1928 silent The Pace That Kills, this is close to the direct template Reefer Madness copied a year later -- roadshow drug-scare pictures were their own little genre, shot cheap and fast for theaters that toured them town to town outside the regular studio system. It's melodrama, not medicine, but the panic it's selling became a genuine cultural template.
