Hawks clocked this dialogue at nearly 240 words a minute, with actors deliberately talking over each other's lines. Most screenplays don't survive that; his did, because the overlaps were scripted, not improvised. It's still the reference point for fast-talking comedy, from Gilmore Girls to Aaron Sorkin's entire career.
